Still had pits but the engraving covered most of it. ![]() I cleaned all the rust off, buffed down the steel receiver and barrel and it still had small pits all over it, so I full engraved it and reblued it again. ![]() It had to weigh 10 lbs.Īfter Dad died my step mother's anti gun family had his guns and when I went to get them back they were rusted big time. I used my Dad's J.C.Higgins Model 66 in 12 gauge. Finally I bid on several of them and typically I won all 3 of them. I kept bidding on the model 29, 30 and 31 as they were all alike except for small features and the auctions kept ending in the middle of the night and I would get out bid. Amazing how a $70 could be worth 5 or 6 times what it sold for 60 years ago. I found the J.C.Higgins rifles on line and they ran from $300 to $500. Many years later I decided I wanted to buy the guns i had as a boy. The only catch was I had to buy the ammo and it came out of my allowance. he let me shoot however many rounds I wanted. Opinions about his engraving may vary but that's up to personal taste. It was a semi auto made by High Standard, A man size 22 rifle. He stands behind his work 100% and his customer service is awesome. I'm just not a high velocity freak so the 41GNR fits my needs, and the 44Mag brass is plentiful around here, the 410 will give you about an extra 250-350fps (over the 41GNR) depending on your gun. I have taken a few deer with his 41GNR which would be my choice over the 410 but they are both great rounds. He's been around for over 30 years and I can assure you his handguns will shoot better than most can make them shoot. An 8 month wait in the world of custom guns is quite reasonable and you'll be hard pressed to find better. I think he does a great action job and his guns have all been very accurate for me. Could always just have them do the rechambering.īetter news? You might want to re read the posts.looks like as many said positive comments as said negative. Who else does similar work on Redhawks? I'm mostly intrigued by the performance of the 41 and 410 GNR. Sounds like they are real busy with a backlog of 400 orders and 8 month wait so they can't totally suck. I was hoping for better news about their work. I took the next shot and you can see the results at boolit exit. Here is a beer can shot at 100 yards by my friend, it did not fall. Yes we do shoot water bottles off the rail off hand at 100 yards. I have shot my friends custom Huntington with amazing accuracy with recoil that will make most run home. Even my old SBH has done 3/4" off hand at 100 yards but it will average 1-1/4" from the bench. ![]() I have shot thousands of 100 yard groups less then 1" and many to one hole groups with out of box revolvers. To fool with the spring shows a lack of knowledge. It is very easy to get 1-1/2# or less trigger pulls with a strong hammer spring. The hammer spring should be STRONGER for accuracy and I use 26# Wolff springs. I can tell right away when anyone reduces the hammer spring for a trigger job- WRONG. Yeah, crazy but a good revolver can rival a rifle. It is hard to make a revolver shoot better then a factory Ruger, Freedom or BFR, very hard.Ī guns looks do not make a shooter and I am not impressed with any revolver unless it does 1/2" to 1-1/4" at 100 yards from the bench. ![]() Personally I would have Huntington or Linebaugh build a custom. I have heard good and bad things over the years about his work.
